As global social injustices and environmental problems persist, our future leaders depend on universities to model a way towards sustainability. Though student leaders depend on universities to teach the role of business and entrepreneurship in affecting positive social and environmental change, universities depend on students to help them practice it. Well-organized student initiatives have demonstrated a catalyzing role in changing campus operations, curriculum, and culture at their universities.
At the same time, a growing interest in the role of business and entrepreneurship in solving social and environmental problems has emerged from students in all disciplines. For example, Net Impact, an international socially responsible business organization for MBA students, has demonstrated the need for and impact of such education in management and economics programs. oikos International will rally the equally transformative and much larger group of undergraduate students also working towards a socially just and environmentally sustainable world.
To the challenges of university transformation and business education, oikos International brings expertise in organizing educational programs and supporting students’ leaders in sustainability-oriented initiatives. oikos helps universities and students to expand the learning experience through its student chapters worldwide. Through oikos Convergence 2007, an academy of 60-75 highly competent and motivated US and international student leaders, oikos will further engage students in thinking about the role business and entrepreneurship in creating positive social and environmental change.
